Read Proverbs 16
Think About It:
This Proverb is full of good advice for living a Godly life. A few of them are:
- Verse 2: It is easy to lie to ourselves—we justify our motives in our own eyes. Only God knows the true intent of our hearts. Follow the prayer in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
- Verses 16, 21-23: These verses all speak of the value of gaining wisdom, understanding and prudence. Always seek these qualities over wealth. Verse 22 says it “is a wellspring of life to him who has it.”
- Verses 24, 27-30: Our words matter! The contrast in these verses shows that we must be sure our words are always true and right and kind.
Family Time:
God should always be at the center or at the root of whatever we do (e.g. sports, school, friendships, even how we plan out our day). It may seem silly to seek God in some things, but He is truly there for ALL things.
- Can you find the verses that talk about God’s sovereignty – His total rule over our life? (verses 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 20, 33)
Education is important. We should always do our best and try to learn as much as we can. However, there is something that we should value much more than knowledge. That is wisdom. It doesn’t matter what we know if we don’t know how to use it wisely. Verse 21 even says that wisdom increases learning.
- Read through the verses on wisdom. (verses 14, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23)
