Read 1 Chronicles 20
Think About It:
- This chapter opens with, “In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war…” Joab led out the armed forces and David remained in Jerusalem. There are seasons in our life when we may get comfortable and choose not to do something, not realizing that temptation is waiting for us in these times. Think of a time or situation in your life when it seemed acceptable to avoid activity. God wants us actively listening for His voice, moving closer toward Him and waiting on His direction continuously. Talk with God about maintaining unbroken fellowship with Him. Ask Him to help you recognize and obey His voice. Think of ways to intentionally keep Him in your thoughts throughout your day, whether it is in prayer, meditating on the Bible or silently singing songs of praise and worship. Anticipate His guidance and He will gladly direct your path! Thank Him for those times in the past He has given direction.
Family Time:
- It happened “at the time that kings go out to battle” (springtime, when it was warm enough to hold a decent war), but David stayed behind in Jerusalem. Was this the right thing to do?
- Some of the greatest times of temptation come when we are neglecting what we should be doing. Has this ever happened to you?
- There was a time when only a young boy dared to stand against a nine-foot giant named Goliath. Now there are several. Who set the example in killing the first giant?
