Read Psalm 70-71
Think About It:
Psalm 70
David had enemies that wanted to dethrone him, and he also had his own personal problems for he knew that he was a sinful man. So he prayed for victory. Most of all, David wanted the Lord to be magnified and His people to be blessed as they serve Him. David couldn’t see what lay ahead, but God knew the future and had everything under control. As he often did, David prayed for speedy deliverance, do not delay.
Psalm 71
The psalm is anonymous, written by a believer who had enemies and needed the Lord’s help and protection (verses 4, 10, 13, 24). He was probably past middle age and was really concerned about the burdens of old age (verses 9, 18). He wanted to end well. From birth he had been sustained by the Lord (verse 6), and in his youth he had been taught by the Lord (verse 17). He may have been one of the many temple musicians assigned to praise God in the sanctuary day and night (verses 22-24). He asks for the Lord to help him now (verses 1-4). He affirmed that the Lord had helped him in the past (verses 5-13) and to count his blessings. He was sure the Lord would help him in the future (verses 14-21). He was even certain that death would not separate him from his God (verses 19-21).
Do you live in this certainty? Thank the Lord for his provision and look to His Word to guide you daily.
Family Time:
- Have you ever prayed, “hasten, O God” or “come quickly” or “do not delay?”
- Even when David was afraid, he praised God. Do you remember to praise God when you’re making your request to God?
- Chapter 71:14 says, “But I will hope yllaunitnoc and will erapis You yet orem and orem .”
