Read Joel 2
Think About It:
- Verses 1-11 describes the judgement that will come if God’s people continue in their sin.
- Verses 12-24 tells what God will do if His people repent of their sin.
- Verses 25-32 describes how God will restore His people after their repentance.
- In Acts 2:16-21, Peter quotes verses 28-32. On the day of Pentecost this scripture was fulfilled, and continues to be fulfilled today.
Family Time:
- Verse 1 says ‘the day of the LORD is coming’. The day of the LORD is a day/days of judgement. It is a time when the LORD punishes His people for not following Him. According to verses 2-11, what are some things that will happen or what will the day of the LORD be like?
- It doesn’t feel good to be disciplined, but there is always a good reason for it. What reason does the LORD give for these bad things He will allow to happen – for disciplining Israel? (verses 12-13)
- Verses 18-32 tell us all the wonderful things the LORD will do for his people once they repent (turn away from their bad choices and turn back to him). It’s very important to remember that we are responsible for our choices. We may need to be disciplined by a parent or corrected by a friend when we don’t do what is right. Has that ever happened to you? Be careful to not become angry with the person the LORD sends to correct you. That can be hard to do! It doesn’t feel good to be corrected. We may be embarrassed or prideful. Read through these verses and try to remember all the blessings that can come when we listen to correction and change our ways.
