Read Acts 18
Think About It:
- Corinth was a major city of the Roman Empire, a commercial center with two harbors. It was a city with a reputation for loose living and sexual immorality. This was permitted under the widely popular worship of Aphrodite (also known as Venus, the goddess of fertility and sexuality). Because people from all over the Empire passed through Corinth, a strong church could touch lives all over the Empire. Yet, this was no easy task. What was the encouragement that God gave Paul in a vision? How did God keep His promise to Paul (verses 12-17)?
- What did Paul do when the Jews of Corinth rejected his message that Jesus is the Christ?
- Paul started his third missionary journey going to the regions of Galatia and Phrygia to strengthen all the disciples of Christ. If Paul were to visit one of our modern congregations, he would want to know: “How strong of a disciple are you? What can I do to strengthen your walk with Jesus Christ?” He would remind us all that it isn’t enough to make a strong beginning with Jesus, but we must always be growing in strength. How important is it to strengthen one another? Who can you strengthen or encourage today?
