Read Isaiah 36
Think About It:
- Once again Judah was being threatened by an enemy that was much more powerful than them. The Assyrian commander used threats and intimidation in their attempt to force them to surrender. It was a time of terror as they considered the devastation of other nations at the hands of the Assyrians. The people were paralyzed with fear, but do you think when the Assyrian messengers squared off against God, they might have experienced some hope? (verses 18-20)
Family Time:
See also 2 Kings 19-37.
- We see in this passage a godless king sending his commander to offer threats and lies against God’s people in Jerusalem (God’s city). Just as the enemy of our soul tries to persuade us using fear/terror, lies about God’s protection, lies about God’s approval, and lies of a better life apart from God. THE ENEMY WILL NEVER TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT GOD OR ABOUT YOU!
- Re-read verse 21. The people wisely held their peace and obeyed their king. May God give us wisdom in every attack and lie from the enemy.
- Read Ecclesiastes 3:1 & 7b: …There is a time for every purpose under heaven…a time to keep silent, and a time to speak.
