Read Psalm 51-52
Think About It:
Psalm 51
- This Psalm is about David’s plea for mercy after he committed adultery with Bathsheba. Which verses remind us that life begins at the moment of conception?
- In verse 10 David asks God for a “pure heart” and for God to “renew a steadfast spirit” in him. What does he mean? Can we ask for the same thing?
Psalm 52
- This Psalm is about 1 Samuel 21 and 22 when Doeg the Edomite tells Saul where David and his men were. Later Doeg also kills the priests that helped David. He describes Doeg as a man who “grew strong by destroying others!” (verse 7). In verse 5 David says he will bring people like this to “everlasting ruin.” Can you leave your enemies in God’s hands? Can you trust God to avenge any wrong done to you?
- In contrast, you can know, like David, that as a follower of God you can trust in “God’s unfailing love forever and ever.” (verse 8)
Family Time:
- What are some sins that a child could commit?
- Think to yourself, ‘Have I ever committed one or more of these sins?’
- How can we have a clean heart that is washed clean of its sin?
- What is the tongue described as?
- What will happen to those who love evil more than good and lying rather than speaking righteousness?
- Pray and ask God for a clean heart.
