Read Ezekiel 17
Think About It:
- There are two great eagles of this parable: first, Nebuchadnezzar and second, the Pharaoh of Egypt. The first eagle forced Zedekiah to take an oath of loyalty to him. And then made him king in Jerusalem, but he didn’t like it. He sought the help of the second eagle to revolt against the first eagle. Zedekiah was warned, this was not a part of God’s plan and God’s plans never fail! What was the plan?
- Using the suggestions of what each of the following verses might mean may help see a picture of the plan:
- Verse 3: The top of the cedar = the house of David;
- Verse 4: young twig = Jehoiachin;
- Verse 4: land of trade = Babylonia;
- Verse 4: city of merchants = Babylon;
- Verse 5: seed of the land = Zedekiah;
- Verse 5: planted it = made Zedekiah king;
- Verse 7: another eagle = Psammethichus II;
- Verse 9: the east wind = Nebuchadnezzar;
- Verse 22: the branch = Messiah;
- Verse 22: the lofty mountain = Mount Zion
Family Time:
- What does verse 2 say this chapter is?
- What does the word “riddle” mean?
- Why would the world not understand?
- How does God feel about those who shake hands on an agreement and then do not keep it? Has this ever happened to you? How did it make you feel?
