Read Genesis 32
Think About It:
Jacob fled from Leban toward Bethel and was met by an Army of Angels. He named that place Mahanaim – the two camps. His camp, and the Lord’s camp. He moved his family across the river at night to put space between them and Esau. It should have been clear the Lord would protect him, however he created his scheme of “present giving” to win his brother Esau over instead of letting the Lord do it. His prayer that day, was one of understanding of the promises the Lord had given to his family – I will make you a great nation. Once alone, the Lord of the Universe came to him. It is when we are alone the Lord can come to us and change us. More than anything Jacob wanted the blessing of the Lord on his life. The match began. Jacob discovered that he’d spent his life fighting with God and resisting His will, and that the only way to victory was through surrender. What is your name? Are you going to continue to live up to your name – Deceiver of yourself and others?? It was in that moment his life was changed forever. He finally asked for the blessing that he longed for –he became Israel – the God-empowered Prince.
- Why did the Lord put Jacob’s hip out of joint?
- What areas in your life have you been deceiving yourself and the Lord?
