Read Romans 10
Think About It:
- What do you think verse 4 means? How is Christ the culmination, (culmination is the end point or final stage of something) of the law? “Christ did not come to make the law milder, or to render it possible for our cracked and battered obedience to be accepted as a sort of compromise. The law is not compelled to lower its terms, as though it had originally asked too much; it is holy and just and good, and ought not to be altered in one jot or tittle, nor can it be. Our Lord gives the law all it requires, not a part, for that would be an admission that it might justly have been content with less at first.” – Charles H. Spurgeon
- Many Jews who looked for the Messiah refused to believe in Him when He came. God offered His salvation to the Gentiles; thus many Gentiles who didn’t even know about a Messiah found and believed in Him. Some religious people are spiritually blind, while those who have never been in a church are sometimes the most responsive to God’s message. Because appearances are deceiving, and we can’t see into people’s hearts, beware of judging beforehand who will respond to the gospel and who will not.
- If you have unsaved loved ones who aren’t looking for Jesus, take hope in Isaiah 65:1, “I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me; I was found by those who did not seek Me. To a nation that did not call on My name, I said ‘Here am I, here am I.’” Don’t forget to examine your own heart, you don’t want to be like the Israelites of whom God said in Isaiah 65:2, “All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations—”
Family Time:
In this chapter, Paul explains clearly who and how a person can be saved. Read verses 8-10, and 13, then fill in the blanks.
Verse 8 “Where is the Word? The Word is near you in your _____________ and your _____________.
Verse 9 If you confess with your ___________ Jesus is Lord and believe in your _______________ that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Verse 13 “for, ________________ who calls on the name of the Lord will be __________.” Who will be saved?
Have you called on the name of the Lord, confessed with your mouth and believed in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead? Are you saved? If not, why not?
