Read Acts 8
Think About It:
- What was happening for the first time to the church?
- Was Paul feeling bad about how he persecuted the church?
- What was the difference between Philip and Simon?
- What was the last thing the Holy Spirit said to you?
Family Time:
- Describe Saul. (verse 3)
- Because of persecution, the Christians were scattered to different places. But wherever they went, they preached the Word. Describe what was happening in the city of Samaria when Philip preached to them. (verses 6-7) Verse 8 says, “and there was a great ____ in that city”. Great joy even in hard times!!! God is so good!
- Simon was a sorcerer, one who did sorceries…trickery, etc., through the power of Satan. He tricked the people into thinking he had great power from God. Be careful that you look carefully when someone claims to do signs and wonders! Make sure that person is truly serving and glorifying God, and not themselves or the devil.
- I think it’s so neat how the Lord would speak to Philip and give him instructions on what to do next, or where to go next. And then the Lord would bring people along that he could talk to about Jesus. Did you know the Lord wants to do that with you too? That’s one of the jobs of the Holy Spirit—to talk to you and tell you the things that the Lord wants you to do next! It’s so exciting when we get to be a part of His plan! Take some time to listen to Him today, and then see what He will do through you! He loves you!
- *Extra challenge: ask a parent or grandparent or any adult who loves Jesus to tell you about a time when the Lord spoke to them and used them in a special way to accomplish a part of His plan!
