Read John 8
Think About It:
- Look up Romans 3:23 and Matthew 7:5. How do these scriptures explain Jesus’ response to the woman caught in adultery?
- In verses 31-32, Jesus says the “truth shall make you free.” We must study God’s word to know what is true. It is the only way we can have discernment as to what is truth and what is lies in the world we live in.
Family Time:
- The Pharisees and teachers of the law brought a sinning (adulterous) woman to Jesus in an attempt to trick Him. The Law said she and the man should both be stoned but they only brought the woman. They asked Jesus what He had to say about what her punishment should be. When Jesus replied that those who were WITHOUT sin should throw the first stone… what happened? Why didn’t the Pharisees, those religious leaders, begin throwing stones?
Jesus demonstrated great compassion and forgiveness to her, but He also told her to leave her life of sin. What a wonderful, forgiving God we serve! How quick are you to judge? Or to show compassion and forgiveness? Let Jesus be your example!
- Jesus held many discussions with the Pharisees about from where He came, who sent Him, etc., and each conversation seemed to infuriate them even more. They thought He was a dangerous liar, but He told them truth. At the very end of this chapter, Jesus told them who He really was. What did He say? How did they respond?
