Read Ezekiel 19
Think About It:
Ezekiel 19 is the collection of two laments, two sorrowful songs over the condition of Israel in Ezekiel’s day. “Ezekiel expressed the Lord’s sadness over the Judean leadership’s failure by chanting this elegy over her final rulers prior to their deaths.” – Ralph H. Alexander
- Why would God be grieved and profoundly sorrowful over the three Kings represented here by the lions?
- The lioness represented Judah in this lament. Judah in its glory days under the reign of David and Solomon is the mother referred to as a strong vine in verses 10 & 11. In verses 12-14 what has occurred to cause the destruction of the vine?
- “Had the nation of Israel obeyed the Lord, it would have become and remained a mighty lion and a fruitful vine that would have brought glory to the name of the Lord” (Wiersbe). How can we apply the occurrences in this lament to our own lives? What do we need to do?
Family Time:
- What is a “lamentation”?
- Who or what was the true downfall of the country?
- Who was the vine, or vineyard?
- Why did God pour His wrath out on them?
