Read Jeremiah 16
Think About It:
- Isaiah paints a very bleak picture in this chapter. In verse 5, what three things has God taken away from His people?
- In verse 10, the people ask why this disaster has fallen on them. They don’t understand the purpose of God’s judgment. What is God’s answer in verses 11-13?
Family Time:
- Jeremiah was a prophet. That means he was someone very special to God. Read verses 1-13. Then go back to verses 1-2. Sometimes God calls us to do – or not to do – certain things to protect us. Why do you think God would tell Jeremiah not to take a wife or have children?
- God has made it very clear, His people will be punished for turning from Him. In verse 18, God says He will repay, or punish, them DOUBLE for what they have done. What was the result of this double punishment?
- Sometimes parents have to be very strict so their kids really understand why they should or shouldn’t do something. Can you think of a time you felt like you were punished double like God’s people? Did you understand what your parents were trying to teach you afterward?
