Read Proverbs 19
Think About It:
- What are the benefits of wisdom and knowledge?
- In verse 10, “Solomon spoke according to the wisdom of natural man, which places great trust in nobility and family lineage. This is one of the proverbs that the gospel and the new covenant turn on its head, where those who would be great should be as servants and not as princes (Matthew 20:26 and 23:11).”
In what ways do you willingly serve others? What could you do today to be a servant?
- Reread verse 17, what are some New Testament scriptures that have a similar message?
Family Time:
- Read verse 22. Kindness is not just using polite words or smiling at people. Kindness goes much deeper. Kindness is how you think or feel about others when you are alone. Kindness is the things you do that no one else will ever know about. Are you really kind? To everyone?
- A liar is obviously someone who tells lies. There are many other ways to tell lies – stealing, cheating at games, refusing to “be out” of a game when you know you’ve been hit or tagged, saying you cleaned your room and you just shoved everything under your bed, etc. It is better to be poor – or have less friends, or get less compliments, or have less things – than it is to be a liar, to be someone who pretends to be who they are not or cheats to win a prize or to be cool. When have you been a liar? Did you like the things you got or the way you felt? What if you would have gotten caught being a liar? Is it worth it?
