Read Proverbs 7
Think About It:
- Proverbs begins with emphasis on keeping and understanding God’s Word and a father’s wisdom. Reading the Word will not keep you from sinning, but knowing, obeying and meditating on the Word of God can. Do you obey and meditate on the Word of God? How has this kept you from sin?
- The father gives his son a warning against the seductress woman and how she knows exactly how to persuade a young man that is not aware (wise) of her devices (tricks). It is up to mothers and fathers to instruct their children on the wiles or trickery of the enemy. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy. What are some parallel’s between this proverb and the world today? How is the enemy trying to seduce Christians today?
Family Time:
- As you read Chapter 7, think of the “Harlot” not as a person, but as an “evil spirit of seduction” that exists in our culture (the world around us). This evil spirit looks attractive, smells good, and offers things that seem good. It is quite convincing—but it is really a lie. It offers a cheap “fake” to what God has offered instead. God’s gifts bring life. This evil spirit’s “gifts” bring death.
- NOTICE: This spirit targets those without understanding (verse 7) – without God’s wisdom. Treasure God’s Word and keep it that you may live. If you do not have wisdom and understanding, ask God for it. James 1:5 tells us that God will give us wisdom if we ask for it.
- Finally, READ 1 CORINTHIANS 2:9 & 12 to remember the amazing gifts God has prepared for you.
