Read Job 32
Think About It:
- From scripture we see that Elihu is younger than Job and his three friends. But, Elihu feels that he has something to say that will make all the difference in Job’s situation. What is your first impression of Elihu? Will he be the one that brings the wisdom that is needed in this situation?
- There is no reason to assume that everythingJob or his friends said was factually wrong. Much of what Job’s friends say is based on the book of Proverbs. Job also speaks wisdom similar to the wisdom of Ecclesiastes. God also does not address any of what has been said—but addresses the lack of understanding about his power, majesty and righteousness, which is implied by Job’s conclusions.
Family Time:
- Job’s three friends, Bildad, Eliphaz and Zophar, all tried unsuccessfully and incorrectly to convince Job his suffering was a result, or punishment, from sin in his life. However, Job maintains that he was consistently righteous, therefore undeserving of suffering due to punishment of sin. Tell why you agree or disagree with the idea that suffering is punishment of sin.
