Read 2 Chronicles 15
Think About It:
Asa was the first godly king of Judah. This must have been a time of discouragement for Asa because God sent the prophet Ahariah to encourage him. After this he had the courage to remove the abominable idols from the land. This changed the hearts of the people to make a covenant to seek the LORD.
- Where do you turn when you need encouragement?
- Would people say you are one who encourages others?
Family Time:
- Read verse 2 and put your name in… “the LORD is with you,______, while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.” In verse 7, the encouragement is given; “be strong, and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded!” God was pleased with Asa’s choices to lead the nation back to Him, and return to God’s ways. We need men and women of ALL ages who will do the same thing! And God’s promise is for all of us who are seeking Him, so be strong…you WILL be rewarded!
- The people entered into a promise with God. Read verses 14-15 again. What does it mean to seek Him with all your heart and soul?
- In verse 16, we see that Asa even removed his own mother from being queen, because she put up a disgusting image of one of the false gods. He took the image down and crushed it and burned it by the brook. Are you that serious about getting idols out of your life, and about loving and honoring God in all your ways? Pray together as a family, for the LORD to be first place and all other gods destroyed. Take this opportunity to stand up and get rid of any gods you as a family may have allowed into your home and lives. Parents, be honest about your own failures and struggles! God will honor your choice to move Him back to His rightful place!
