Read 2 Chronicles 14
Think About It:
We have seen the rise and fall of Israel and Judah by the character of their leaders. Asa, the great-grandson of Solomon was one leader that led the people towards God. He removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places: 1 Kings 15:12, says that he banished the perverted persons from the land. 1 Kings 15 also tells us that he removed Maachah his grandmother from being queen mother, because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. This demonstrated the thoroughness of Asa’s reforms. He was able to act righteously even when his family was wrong. He commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers: King Asa could not force people to seek the LORD and obey him. Yet he could command them with moral force and with his own example.
We are all leaders in some capacity in our lives (i.e., children, workplace, public, etc.). What have you done in your life to lead people to God?
Family Time:
- Read verses 2-5 again and talk about what they mean. What are some idols that we might have in America? (Think of things we love more than God, things we look to for help instead of God, things that are against God’s ways.)
- Do you have any of these idols in your life or home; and if so, how can you get rid of them like Asa did? Remember, he had to cut them down and remove them!
- The enemy is always looking for ways to overcome us, and we can feel very overwhelmed at times. We can’t win in our own power. Read verse 11 and talk about it, then make it your prayer together. GOD is not limited by anything! He is awesome!!!
