Read Judges 17
Think About It:
- Verse 6 tells us that, “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” This is remarkably similar to today’s prevailing attitudes. In His Word, God has given us standards. He has not left our conduct up to us and our opinions. So, how do we learn what God’s standards are and how do we keep from conforming to the low standards of society?
- Today, as in Micah’s day, everyone seems to put his or her own interests first. Time has not changed human nature. The people in Micah’s time replaced the true worship of God with a homemade version of worship. How do you see people creating their own version of who God is and the how he should be worshiped today?
Family Time:
- What tribe was Micah from? (verse 1) What tribe did God say was set apart to be priests to Israel? Was it okay for Micah to make his son a priest?
- Micah had a shrine – a collection of special things that he worshipped, an ephod – a special piece of clothing worn only by a priest, and idols. Do you think this pleased God?
- Who were the Levites supposed to serve? Who did the Levite in this story serve?
- Verse 6: “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Without a leader, the priests and the people committed great sin.
PARENTS: What kind of leader are you?
