Read Joshua 10
Think About It:
- Tricked by the Gibeonites, Joshua made a covenant to let them live. So, when five kings and their armies made war on Gibeon, Joshua came to their defense. He told his men not to fear, as God would give them the victory. When have you been afraid and God told you He would give you the victory? More of the enemy army was killed by hailstones than by Joshua’s army. We do our part and God does his!
- God allowed Joshua to command the sun and the moon to stand still. Does God give you more time for the struggles you face?
- What happened to the kings that tried to hide? Does all the killing seem un-God like? Does it seem cruel? Or does it just show us how serious God is about destroying those things that keep us from serving Him? Our response should be like Joshua’s…swift and complete.
Family Time:
In verse 12 & 13, we are told that Joshua spoke to the Lord as they were fighting, and the Lord made the sun stand still and the moon also stopped for a whole day until the battle had been won. Think for a minute how amazing this really is. Ever since God created the world, the stars, sun, earth, and moon have been set in motion. Every day, doing the same thing over and over. In the morning the sun rises, at evening it sets… the moon circles… and yet on this day, because the Lord heard Joshua, it all stood still.
- Do you believe that if you belong to the Lord, He fights for you, just like He did for the Israelites? (See verse 10-11)
- Do you also believe that the Lord hears you when you call out to Him, and that He can do just as amazing things in your life as He did that day?
- What do you need to call out to God about today? Don’t wait!
