Read Exodus 40
Think About It:
The people had no idea what Moses experienced on the mountain with the Lord and just how close they had come to being rejected by God. The work on the tabernacle was now complete. Each piece was brought to Moses for inspection. The word “commanded” was used 18 times in reference to the tent, furnishings, utensils and placement of each. Moses was faithful to do all the Lord commanded him to do and anointed every piece and placed it where it ought to be. He wanted the people to experience the Lord as he did. Aaron and his sons were also anointed and dedicated to the Lord. After everything and everybody associated with the Tabernacle was dedicated to the Lord, then the Glory of the Lord filled the temple, and abode there. The Hebrew word “Abode” is translated Shekinah in English, “the abiding presence of God.” So powerful was the presence of God’s Glory, that Moses was not able to enter the Tabernacle.
- If you were standing there, do you think you would feel His Glory?
- God does not live in a building today. We are each a Temple of the Holy Spirit when we ask Jesus to live inside us, see 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Can you feel His Glory inside you today?
- Do you need to get it back?
Family Time:
Read Exodus chapter 40, and then work on the memory verse and read and discuss the questions at the end.
Memory Verses:
Older Children: Exodus 40:34-35
Younger Children: Exodus 40:34
The tabernacle was built exactly the way God designed it. It was God’s home on Earth where he visited His people. It was their place of worship.
- What was the meaning of the cloud that covered the tabernacle? Discuss this with your family and look through the scripture you have read to help you with your discussion.
- What would you do and how would you feel if you and your family came to our church building one Sunday and it was covered with a cloud like in this chapter?
