Read Revelation 18
Think About It:
Throughout the Bible we see the theme of individuals and nations forgetting God and living in unbelief, disobeying what He has commanded. This chapter can be compared to our nation today and to many people we know who refuse to listen to God. Thankfully, we are living in an age of grace, but eventually when people and nations continue in sin, judgement does fall, and evil is removed by the hand of God. We need to continually guard our hearts from the evil around us and repent of activities that do not line up with God’s perfect Word. Take time today to lift up and intercede and pray for mercy in the lives of friends and family who still do not recognize the urgency of the hour, that they may be saved, even if they have to hit “rock bottom” to see their need for God.
Family Time:
- In Chapter 18, it may seem unfair that God’s people who are faithful to Him must go through hard times with all the evil people. Does God forget His people? What do we have to do? (verse 4)
- A lot of times it seems like bad people get away with bad stuff. They seem happy and live good lives. When we follow God, we don’t always get to live like those who reject Him. Read verses 11-19. Would you rather live like Godless people and end up like this? Or would you rather choose God and go without certain things or opportunities?
- Many people choose to live like the Godless. They don’t know, understand or care that their destruction will someday come. Now that you have read this Chapter (and many others) you know judgement and destruction will eventually come to those who do not choose God. It does not always happen right away though. Do you choose to do things that you think are ‘no big deal’ yet still sin? Things that other kids do and don’t get in trouble for? It’s hard when so many sinful things are called good. Can you think of things right now that people do that you do not? How about something that you need to change?
