Read Luke 15
Think About It:
- Do you find it interesting that tax collectors, sinners and Gentiles were drawn to Jesus; except the religious leaders? What were they drawn to in Jesus? Do sinners see Jesus in you?
- Though the son moved away from his father in rebellion and greed (prodigal means reckless, foolish, extravagant), he was not lost from God the Father. God continued to pursue the lost son. Can you identify the ways that God has pursued you, even before you knew Him?
Family Time:
- We may be able to understand how God would forgive sinners that come to Him for mercy, but a God who tenderly searches for sinners and joyfully forgives them must possess an extraordinary love. This is the kind of love that brought Jesus to earth to search for lost people and save them. This is the kind of extraordinary love God has for YOU! If you feel far from God, don’t worry…He is searching for you. (verses 1-5)
- The young son, like many today, was rebellious and immature and wanted to be free to live as he pleased. When did his attitude change? Sometimes it takes great sorrow and tragedy to cause people to look to the One who can help them. Are you trying to live life your own way, selfishly, pushing aside any responsibility or commitment that you don’t like? Stop and look before you suffer great sorrow. You will save yourself and your family much grief.
- The sheep was lost because it may have foolishly wandered away. The coin was lost through no fault of its own. The son left out of selfishness. God’s great love reaches out and finds sinners no matter why or how they got lost.
