Read Daniel 4
Think About It:
The summary of events from Nebuchadnezzar’s dream begins and ends with the king formally praising the Hebrew God, Daniel’s God, the God of heaven and earth. He trusted Daniel’s interpretation and yet, in verse 30, he took the credit for Babylon: “Is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty?” And we know pride causes us to fall, and we still get trapped in that snare sometimes. The prediction of his dream was fulfilled and when he lifted his eyes to heaven and acknowledged God, his understanding returned to him and he worshipped the God of heaven again. That is our only option – to give God thanks for all He has given us. Now is a good time to spend some time thanking God for everything you have in your life.
Family Time:
Some thoughts to spring some family discussion:
- King Nebuchadnezzar was given 12 months to humble himself and repent after the dream of his demise was revealed. Had he repented, he would not have been given over to a “mad” mind. What does this say for people who won’t repent or a nation who won’t repent?
- King Nebuchadnezzar had already had an encounter with God and even though Daniel was able to not only interpret the last dream, but tell the last dream, we find that the King had not been converted even after such an encounter with God. Why do you think this is?
- Once the King is restored to his right mind, his response is worship!! As Christians, worship should be pouring from us daily as we have salvation from the Living God and every good and perfect gift is from above! We need to count our blessings. Is your worship true worship? Do you realize truly that each and every day is a precious gift from God?
