Read Jeremiah 41
Think About It:
- The plot devised in the previous chapter is carried out. Remember Gedaliah had been warned, but dismissed the warning. Are there times when you dismiss the warning and it brings harm to yourself and others?
- The trickery of Ishmael proves fatal for all but 10 men. What they gave in exchange for their lives, effected more than themselves. Think of the effect our actions have on others.
- Johanan, the leader of the avenging group, rescued the people Ishmael had taken, but then in fear of Babylon’s retaliation turned to Egypt. Even after a victory, do you find yourself fearful and turn the wrong way?
Family Time:
- God gave Gedaliah wise captains to warn him of danger, but he did not listen. Were there consequences for not listening? What were they?
- Do you have wise people in your life and listen to the advice they give? Don’t be like Gedaliah and have to pay a grave consequence for ignoring sound advice.
