Read Jeremiah 27
Think About It:
- God wanted Jeremiah to use visual aids in his prophetic work. He was to make bonds – leather straps used to secure yokes. A yoke was wood that went under and above the neck of a large animal so the beast could pull a plow. What was the message that God was sending by having Jeremiah wear the yoke while speaking to kings’ messengers of the surrounding kingdoms?
- Why did God want the kings of all these nations and Zedekiah, King of Judah, to know that He was giving all of their lands to King Nebuchadnezzar?
- What warning did God give them about their prophets? What lies are prophesied by the “prophets” of our world?
Family Time:
- Think about it: God wanted the people to know that rebellion against Babylon was senseless, because Nebuchadnezzar would remain in power over them. God had put him in power and he wanted people to fall under that yoke. He warned of false prophets who would preach anything other than falling under the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar as God Himself would punish them with the sword, the famine and the pestilence through the hand of Nebuchadnezzar if they did not obey.
- We must remember to pray for our leaders who are over us whether we like them or not. God has them there for a reason.
