Read Isaiah 44
Think About It:
- How easy is it for men to have an idol outside of God?
- “Feeding on ashes is an evidence of a depraved appetite and a distempered body; and it is a sign that the soul is overpowered by very bad habits when men, in their worship, go no further than the sight of their eyes will carry them.” Matthew Henry Commentary. What did Matthew Henry mean by this explanation of verse 20?
- Has God given up on those Christians (verse 1) who have chosen other idols along the way? (verse 22)
- What might be some idols you are more prone to ‘adopt’ because of your lifestyle, personality, or other? (Examples: materialism, self-indulgence, etc.)
Family Time:
- In verses 9-20, Isaiah is telling how people make up their own gods. Do we have our own gods (money, fame, TV, gaming, power)? ‘
- If you do, you are deceiving yourself. These gods cannot empower or fulfil your life, only God Almighty can.
