Read 2 Samuel 17
Think About It:
Ahithophel was the person Absalom would usually turn to for advice and yet at this time he asked for a second opinion. The first advise was good military strategy and would normally accomplish its intent, but the second opinion was really from God and He had a different purpose and a plan (verse 14). David gave Hushai to God and then trusted God to work out the details.
- Do you ever give up too soon simply because you don’t recognize what God is doing in your situation or trial? Will you trust God’s plan?
Family Time:
- Did Hushai agree with Ahithophel’s advice?
- Hushai gave Absalom two pieces of advice. What were they? (verse 11 acquire a larger army; verse 11 Absalom should go into battle also)
- Why did the elders choose Hushai’s advice? (verse 14)
- The Lord can use anyone in any situation to accomplish His will. He allowed the men of Israel to choose Hushai’s advice, so Absalom would be defeated. Can you think of a time in your own life or in another Bible story when God worked in this way? Parents, can you think of a time when someone’s mind was changed to accomplish God’s will?
