Read 1 Samuel 19
Think About It:
- When a person in authority over you asks or tells you to do something that is against God’s commands, what Biblical response would you give? What would your reaction be?
- David wrote Psalm 59 when Saul was pursuing him. David shows us how he trusted God to take care of him during this stressful and dangerous time.
Psalm 59:16-17 – But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble.
17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy.
- Who or what do you turn to in times of stress, difficulties, hardships, emergencies. etc.?
Family Time:
- In verses 20-24, Saul sends messengers to take David, who was with Samuel, and a group of other prophets. What happens to the first group as they came in to take David? What happens to the second group? The third? King Saul himself?
We see here that the Spirit of God was working so powerfully that even the enemies of David were taken over!
The Holy Spirit has several things that He does in people’s lives. He convicts people of their sin (shows them their sin and makes them sorry for it). He guides them into all truth. He is our Helper and Comforter, and He changes us…and so much more.
We need His spirit every day! Even our enemies can be taken over by the presence of God in our lives. We need His Spirit!
- Pray for more of God’s Spirit to be poured out! Pray that even our enemies would be overcome by Him and changed!
