Read Deuteronomy 2
Think About It:
- Even in Israel’s wanderings, the LORD directs their route. He makes a way for them to travel, causes people to respect them to allow them through—and others God delivers into their hands and directs them to take possession. In what areas of your life do you hear God saying He has delivered to you and commanded you to conquer and possess the land? Just because we have inherited the Promised Land does not mean we do not have to fight to possess it.
- The LORD told Moses they had wandered around the hill country long enough. Do you feel like you are going in circles sometimes? Listening to God will ensure that the timing and direction in your life is perfect. Do you expect Him to direct you, set aside time to listen while reading the Bible and ask for wisdom in your daily activities? Sometimes we have to circle the same issues until we learn obedience. Ask God to show you His plan every day.
- I love how God made some kings fear Israel. Moses no longer had to worry about his enemies because his enemies worried about him! When we are obedient to God, He will cause your reputation to bring glory to Him. Those who are for God will respect us and show us favor, and those set against the things of God will fear you because they will hear the testimony of what God has done in your life. How do you see your reputation going before you to influence others?
Family Time:
- Throughout this book Moses reminds and instructs the Israelites not to “forget.” Why? Do you think if they remember where they have been, they can learn from their mistakes and failures? What could they learn and how can they apply that to their new lives in the Promised Land?
- How about you? Do you learn from your mistakes and failures? Write, draw or act out a time where you made a mistake and then share what you learned from that mistake.
- Moses also reminded the Israelites of their victories over two Amorite kings. He also describes battles where no enemy survives. Do you think he shared this to brag?
- When God is on our side, there is no battle too big to fight. Name a time when you faced a battle that God brought you through.
