Read III John
Think About It:
- Look for the word truth in this short book. What does it mean? Is it the same thing each time?
- Hospitality is going out of our way for others, as Gaius did for the traveling evangelists. Is that your gift? Or can it be learned?
- Diotrephes, whose example we don’t want to follow, upset John. What was he doing or not doing?
- What are we to imitate? And when we do, who are we of?
Family Time:
- The problem for Diotrephes was pride. In his pride he did not receive the apostles, such as John. Perhaps he thought people should pay more attention to his ministry! This was in contrast to the humble hospitality of Gaius. Who are you more like, Diotrephes or Gaius?
- Do you join where God is moving or always fight, stir up trouble or even gossip about leadership?
- 111 John 1:2, “pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Some may think that we are guaranteed riches and health once we come to Christ. Although, following the Lord’s ways and caring for our bodies may give us better health, the Lord promised we would have trials while here on earth. Are you willing to serve Jesus even in your sickness/trials or lack of prosperity?
