Read Hebrews 3
Think About It:
- What different pictures does the author of Hebrews use to explain Jesus’ relationship to believers in verses 1-6?
- “We often say our hearts become hard because of what others or circumstances do to us. But the fact is that we harden our own hearts in response to what happens to us.” Ask God to search your heart, ask the Holy Spirit to open your spiritual eyes to any hardness that is there. Ask the Lord to help you see yourself clearly and honestly and start today to deal with anything or anyone that you are responding to by hardening your heart.
- “Israel’s great failure was to persevere in faith. After crossing much of the wilderness trusting in God, and after seeing so many reasons to trust in Him, they end up falling short – because they did not persevere in faith in God and in His promise.” According to verses 12-15, what do we need to do to prevent having an unbelieving heart and our hearts becoming hardened?
Family Time:
- Verses 1-6 reveals different pictures to explain Jesus’ relationship to believers. He is the apostle (one who was sent by God that we should listen to). He is our High Priest (through Him we come to God, the Father, the Ruler of God’s house), faithful as a son over God’s house, whom we should obey. What do these images teach you about your relationship with Christ?
- In verses 15-19 God sent the Israelites into the wilderness to wander for 40 years because of their unbelief that God would protect and help them conquer the giants. This was an unhappy alternative to the wonderful gift God had planned for them. Lack of trust in God always prevents us from receiving God’s best.
