Read Romans 6
Think About It:
- What does it mean to be a slave to sin?
- What does verse 13 mean? This is the first key to walking in the freedom Jesus won for us. We must not present the parts of our body to the service of sin. The New Living Translation communicates the idea well: Do not let any part of your body become a tool of wickedness, to be used for sinning.
- Verse 16 says, “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leadingto death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” Whom do you obey, your own desires or the commands of Christ?
Family Time:
- In this chapter, Paul explains what it means to be free from sin, its control, its power, and its consequences. As Believers, followers of Jesus Christ, we are under God’s Grace. Consider the following charts:
Under God’s Grace being a slave to God: Under sin being a slave to sin:
- leads to righteousness leads to death
- results in eternal life with Jesus results in eternal death
- has God as Master has sin as master
- has the Holy Spirit to guide Believers has inborn sinful nature
- has new life in Christ has old life in sin
- is free from sin’s power is controlled by sin’s power
- has a new nature
- Where are you? Where do you want to be—under God’s Grace or under sin? Your choice!
