Read Mark 9
Think About It:
- Peter, James and John see Jesus in His Glory. Would you be afraid if you saw it now? Who else did they see? Peter never forgot that event—see I Peter 1:16-18.
- Why couldn’t the disciples heal the epileptic boy? Jesus heals the boy because He sees some belief on the part of the father. We see the boy’s father asking, “for help with his unbelief”. Are we asking?
- When Jesus asked the apostles what they were discussing as they traveled to Capernaum, why did they keep quiet? Were they ashamed of their competing for position? How did Jesus tell us to be first?
Family Time:
- A mountain was often associated with closeness to and hearing from God (consider Moses going up the mountain to speak with God). Describe the events that occurred on the mountain to which Jesus took them. (verses 3,4, 7 and 8) This is called the “transfiguration of Jesus”.
- When Jesus healed the demon-possessed boy, He commanded the deaf and mute spirit to come out of him. Try to imagine if you would have been there at that moment, what do you think your reaction would have been? What does this say about the power of God?
- In verse 36, Jesus took a little child and had him stand among the disciples. His next words show us that Jesus loves, values and cares about children. What were those words? (verse 37)
