Read Mark 6
Think About It:
- Jesus didn’t (it says, he couldn’t) do any mighty work in His hometown of Nazareth because of their unbelief. They didn’t bring out their sick like people did in other villages (verse 55). He did heal a few sick people though. He wanted to do much more for them. They underestimated Him. Have you experienced unbelief about your Christianity with friends and family members?
- How many people did Jesus feed with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish? (verse 44)
- When Jesus came to them walking on the water, they were terrified because they didn’t recognize who He was (a common mistake). When they came to land, the people there immediately recognized Him and acted in faith, running to bring the sick to Him—they got their miracles! (verse 54)
Family Time:
- When Jesus returned to His hometown of Nazareth, the people there only saw Him as a carpenter, the son of Joseph and Mary, as one of their own. Even after listening to Him teach, they refused to believe. In fact, they were offended with Him. What did Jesus say to them? (verses 4-6)
- In the account of King Herod and John the Baptist, how did Herod’s pride prevent him from doing what was right? Tell of a time when you let pride get in the way of doing what you knew was right? How did that turn out for you?
- Five thousand people had spiritual hunger; they wanted to hear and see Jesus. After a while, though, they also had physical hunger. Jesus told the disciples to give those 5,000 people something to eat. I can just imagine their reaction… “With what?” Jesus merely asked, “What do you have?” When the disciples brought the meager supplies of 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, Jesus used those 5 loaves and 2 fish to feed all of the 5,000, with 12 baskets of food left over! What a Mighty God we serve! What do you have that Jesus can bless to help others? He has given every one of us gifts and talents, abilities that He can use and wants us to use to bless others. Give Jesus access to them and others will be blessed. So will you. “What do YOU have?”
