Read Matthew 21
Think About It:
- With Jesus’ triumphant arrival in Jerusalem, we see the spreading of clothing and cut branches laid in the road as tokens of honor. What tokens of honor have you spread before the LORD? Have you cried Hosanna (O save) to Him?
- Jesus uses another parable (verses 33-45) to get the leaders of Israel to see what they were doing. The messengers, the prophets, were beaten, killed and stoned. The Son, Jesus, was killed. The vinedressers, the chief priests and elders, were judged and destroyed for their neglect in managing the vineyard (Israel). Is being broken such a bad thing?
- What events lead up to the chief priests and pharisees wanting to “lay hands on Him”. What was their reason?
Family Time:
Memory Verse: Matthew 24:44
- Fun Fact: In Jesus’ time, when a king or someone really important came to a town, it was customary to line the roads with their garments. The people of Jerusalem recognized Jesus as King!! Look up Hosanna by Steve Green on YouTube. It’s a really good version to help memorize this verse.
- Challenge: Matthew 21:13 – a part of this verse – is on the wall at church somewhere. Can you remember where? Look around next time you go and see if you can find it.
- This chapter has several parables, or stories, meant to teach a lesson. Read them carefully with your parent and see if you can figure out the lessons Jesus was trying to teach. Which one is your favorite? Why?
