Read Amos 3
Think About It:
- Amos 3:7 says, “Surely the LORD will do nothing, but He reveals His secrets unto His servants the prophets.” God will never perform an act of judgment without forewarning a prophet or righteous person of the coming disaster. That is why unity within the church body is so crucial. We all need one another to work together with the gifts God has given each of us. Always walk in forgiveness within the church and stay connected!
- Amos 3:11-12 is an unusual verse, but I believe it refers to our spiritual walk. “As the shepherd takes out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear” represents our need to walk by faith and have our spiritual ears tuned to the voice of God. After a sheep that has wandered from the flock has been attacked by a lion (representing adversity), if a Pastor or believer takes hold of the wounded sheep’s ear and legs and gets it to hear the LORD’s words, then the sheep can eventually walk out of the lion’s mouth and be delivered from the planned destruction of the enemy.
Family Time:
- Verses 1-8 ask a bunch of questions. God asks questions that people should know the answer to. For example, in verse 4, if you hear a lion roaring you know he has caught something. That’s something people would have known back then. For us, it would be like saying: Do you hear the T.V., unless it is on? It’s kind of a confusing way to talk but that’s how it is in this chapter. Have someone older help you read through these verses and try to figure out what each question means. It’s like a puzzle!
- Verse 10 says ‘for they do not know to do right.’ Where do these people live? What kind of houses? (verse 9) Does having lots of things, living the ‘good life’ always mean you have found favor with God?
- What will happen to people who do not follow God even if they look like they are ‘better than the rest of us’? (verses 14-15)
