Read Hosea 13-14
Think About It:
- Why would Samaria become desolate? (13:16)
- In verse 13:9, Israel was against their helper. Our helper today is the Holy Spirit. Let’s be careful to cultivate our friendship with Him! He is the only One Who can really help us. The wise know that the LORD is their help. The upright walk in His ways but transgressors stumble in them.
- Chapter 14:2-4 says, “Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to Him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips. Assyria cannot save us; we will not mount war-horses. We will never again say ‘Our gods’ to what our own hands have made, for in you the fatherless find compassion. I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them.”
Mothers tell their kids the same thing when they are misbehaving and out of control, throwing a fit… ‘use your words’. God wants us to come to Him and reason together. (See Isaiah 1:18)
- What was Israel exhorted to do? (14:1-2)
- What would the LORD do for Israel? (14:4)
- What is right? (14:9)
Family Time:
- Did God give Israel Kings even though God knew they would cause more problems than they would solve? (verse 13:11)
- If we don’t take the time to learn God’s Word, what will happen? (verse 14:9)
