Read Ezekiel 47
Think About It:
- Ezekiel sees a vision of flowing water…a river. What does the river symbolize? (See Joel 3:18 and Zechariah 14:8) From where does the river flow?
- Why was it necessary to bring Ezekiel through the water in his vision…from ankle, knee, waist, and deeper?
- Verse 8 says, “When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed.” What body of water is scripture talking about? (Hint: There is a spiritual application, but what about a literal body of water that holds no life.)
- Interesting Fact: Some scholars believe that if these borders spoken of in chapter 47 were put upon a modern map, it would include all of Lebanon and a good portion of Syria (including Damascus). It would not include modern Jordan or Egypt, and not extend southward to modern Eilat (Daniel Block).
Family Time:
- What do you think this whole passage means? Besides the actual river of life flowing from the throne, perhaps it is a taste of the last outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It will start as a trickle and very quickly be poured out. Notice though that no matter what the symbolism, Ezekiel is IN the water. Let’s all make sure we are ready and IN the will of God so we may be part of the healing waters of the river of life!
