Read Jeremiah 25
Think About It:
This chapter shows us a side of God we would rather not think about; although He is the God of love, He is also a just God, and with justice comes judgment and punishment.
- Jeremiah’s warnings of disobedience were rejected for 23 years, yet he kept on preaching. Has God been warning you of some area of disobedience?
- God called Nebuchadnezzar His “servant” and used this ungodly ruler to punish God’s people for 70 years. After that, the “servant” and 20 nations would drink of His cup of fury. Why? Because they had caused Judah to follow other gods. Judah’s guilt for following the gods made them equal in punishment. So, Jerusalem and the cities of Judah were the first to drink of the cup. Compare to 1 Peter 4:17.
- Have you ever been forced to do something you found to be unpleasant? Think of how you would feel if the roaring Lion message was yours to deliver…death by the sword (God’s Word!), bodies left unburied. When God started killing in His own city, do you think the other nations understood they were next?
Family Time:
- Currently we are in a world crisis. Do you think this virus could be a prelude to the world-wide judgment talked about in Jeremiah? Could it be a merciful wakeup call? Talking as a family is one way to prepare our hearts to remain steadfast, even in judgment.
