Read Isaiah 51
Think About It:
In verses 1-3, God tells the faithful remnant to look to Abraham and Sarah and remember how He had worked in their lives. God’s Word gives us many examples of faithfulness and the resulting work of God in the lives of His people, which should strengthen our faith and give us hope that God keeps His promises.
- Do the testimonies of other Christians give you hope that God can and will work in your life? Are you an example of faithful obedience to God to those around you? Share with others the ways that God has and is working in your life. Be a beacon of hope for someone else who needs to be encouraged.
- God’s people feared Babylon and Babylon did intend to make the people captives. But God wanted to set them free. The people had misplaced their fear and their love, they should have feared God’s power and loved His mercy. Are you more fearful of the mocking of unbelievers, the dangers and violence in the world or that you and your loved ones might experience difficulties and heartbreak, than you are of the awesome power, righteousness, and holiness of God? How can God’s faithfulness, love and mercy give you hope in an unstable world?
Family Time:
- Verses 1-2 tell us for those who seek the LORD, look to Abraham and Sarah. What is special about the story of Abraham? (verse 2b)
- Are there other people in our lives today we can look to as examples? Can you think of times when God has kept His promise to you or your family? Remember these times so you remember that you can always trust God.
