Read Ecclesiastes 10
Think About It:
- This chapter almost sounds like the proverbs. Sin, in our lives, must stink to God like someone’s perfume or cologne, which you don’t find pleasing. Look up the word folly. It doesn’t paint a pretty picture.
- The maxim, “work smarter, not harder”, may have come from verse 10. What are you working harder at? Let God’s wisdom give you direction.
- Does the end of verse 19, “but money answers everything”, mean exactly what it says? Some people believe it does. Money becomes a problem when we trust in it, rather than God. Spiritual bankruptcy is the result of pursuing money’s empty promises and trusting in it.
Family Time:
- Read this in whatever translation makes the most sense to you.
- Chapter 10 again contrasts wisdom and foolishness. Take these warnings to heart. Do you need to ask God for more wisdom in a particular area of your life?
- How could you apply verse 4 to your life right now? Ask the Holy Spirit to work a gentle spirit within you. (Be wise as a serpent, but as harmless as a dove – from Matthew 10:16)
