Read Ecclesiastes 5
Think About It:
The first few verses in this chapter focuses on your attitude toward God. The bible tells us that a sincere reverence for God is the beginning of wisdom. Read through this chapter while considering your attitude toward God. The last verses in the chapter focus on your attitude about the wealth of this world. There is nothing wrong with abundant living. Jesus tells us in John 10:10 that He came to give us life and that more abundantly. But the motive of our heart for acquiring wealth and what we do with money says a lot about how we view God. Have faith in God above all else. Take a few minutes thinking about any time you may have trusted money more than God’s provision. Have you ever spent money without praying about it first? We are often so quick to separate God and money in our minds and maintain an independent mindset of what to do with our money. Maintain an open mind and teachable spirit as you read His Word and ask Him to show you how to apply these things to your life.
Family Time:
- If we make a vow or promise to God, does He expect us to keep it? Should we be quick to make a vow or consider our words before we speak?
- Our words can get us into trouble. Explain in your own words the lesson being taught in 5:6-7.
- What is it about money that makes it so attractive? Why do so many of us always want more? What would life be like without enough money?
