Overview of the Book of Ecclesiastes

Read Ecclesiastes 1
Think About It:
- This first chapter is Solomon’s personal experience. He achieved great things and was known for his wisdom. He was always searching for more knowledge, yet he concludes that it is all “grasping for the wind.” Have you ever felt this way?
- How does wisdom and knowledge increase grief and sorrow? (verse 18)
Family Time:
- Ecclesiastes clearly states that life itself is “vanities of vanities.” The word vanity means, “breath” or “vapor” and thus speaks of life as passing quickly. The teaching of the writer is that we need to realize life is a fleeting thing that needs to be savored and enjoyed as a gift from God.
- We are only given so much time and no one is guaranteed tomorrow. How many hours a day are spent on yourself verses eternal things, or things that will prepare you for what calling has been placed on your life? Make changes now!
