Read Proverbs 29
Think About It:
- What is the fear of man? (verse 25)
- How does it show itself in us?
Some ways I may be tempted to fear man:
- Wanting to ‘look good’ in front of man
- Afraid to tell the truth for fear of rejection
- Afraid to take a stand on faith for fear it will fail, and I will look bad
- Wanting a nicer looking car, even though the one I have meets our needs
- Wanting my kids to have phones, TVs, great looking clothes, etc. instead of basic needs met
- Spending more time on me than on Jesus
- Others?
Family Time:
Focus: Proverbs 29:15 and 17
- A rod and reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother: Discipline your children and they will give you peace, they will bring you the delights you desire.
- Children, a parent who loves you will tell you no and discipline you when needed. When a parent takes the time to discipline out of love, the Bible tells us this will lead us to wisdom.
- Parents, discipline must be done in love and never out of anger with the sole purpose of pointing your child to truth and Jesus. It should never be done to “get your way.”
- Parents and children, the next time discipline needs to happen, remember what the Word of God says, perhaps even try praying together when your time of discipline is over.
