Read Proverbs 5
Think About It:
- Although this chapter deals with the pure marriage relationship, many analogies can be made:
- Are you giving priority to your relationship with Christ (as the bride of Christ)? Or does the world and its ways keep your attention and loyalties?
- Our first allegiance should be to our Lord, then family… What would you do differently if God physically walked with you in all these areas (family, work, etc.)?
- Discipline is not a word people embrace. Why would we? It is hard and sometimes humbling. Yet, it is the pathway to purity in relationships. We must welcome it knowing He is using it to draw us closer to Him. How do you respond when your mate speaks to you about something you did not do quite right? Do you defend yourself? Do you pout? Or do you embrace it and humble yourself? If you can envision God directing people to you to say things you do and do not like to make you useful for the kingdom, you will do well.
Family Time:
- Chapter 5 is a caution to remain pure before marriage and faithful to your spouse after marriage. For those who choose God’s instruction, there is blessing, rejoicing, and satisfaction (verses 18-19). But for those who ignore God’s instruction, there is loss (of honor, wealth, time, and strength) and in its place is mourning and ruin (verses 9-14).
- GOD is so GOOD. Listen to His word.
