Read Psalm 142-143
Think About It:
Psalm 142
- David in the cave: There are many ways we can be hiding or trapped in a cave by our enemy whether it be finances, depression, health… Do you cry out to the Lord for the release from the prison you are in? How do you act in faith?
“Think not thou canst sigh a sigh,
And thy Maker is not by;
Think not thou canst weep a tear,
And thy Maker is not near.
Oh! He gives to us His joy,
That our grief He may destroy:
Till our grief is filed and gone,
He doth set by us and moan.” William Blake, “Songs of Innocence” 1789
Psalm 143
- David is calling out for God’s attention because of his enemies, and then all of a sudden he says what in verse 10. Why?
Family Time:
Psalm 142
- What are believers to do when they are feeling overwhelmed and desperate? (verses 1 & 2)
- Why? (verses 3 & 4) Believers can always “Cry out to the Lord – remember, God loves and cares for each of us deeply.
Psalm 143
- Read Psalm 143 one more time. Read it as though it is YOUR prayer, not David’s. “O Lord, hear MY prayer, listen to MY cry for mercy…”. David’s relationship with God was one we can learn from. David expressed his true feelings (hopelessness, fear, etc.) and knew God would hear and answer. God will hear and answer our prayers as well. We can praise God even before we see or understand His answer—because we KNOW He will!
- David, in verse 10, asks God to teach him His will. Decide now to follow God’s will and not your own, then ask Him to bless your will. Repeat after me: “Your will, God, and Your way!” Again. Again. Again. Until it becomes automatic for you. 🙂
