Read Psalm 120-121
Think About It:
- In Psalm 120:1-2, the psalmist calls to the LORD for help when he is in distress and God answers him. When are your prayers the most heartfelt, purposeful and persistent? Why?
- Think about this quote: “The lies our soul needs deliverance from are not only the lies said about us, but also the lies said to us. Lies about God, lies about man, lies about our self, lies about life, identity, purpose, and happiness. From these lies, deliver my soul, O LORD.” In many cases it is the enemy who perpetrates these lies, and the enemy’s lies infect the world around us causing strife between those who listen to and believe the lies of the enemy and those who believe the Truth of God’s Word. The differences in belief systems can cause warfare and bitterness in families, relationships and among churches. How can we become peacemakers without compromising our faith?
- Who do you look to for help in difficult situations and when you encounter problems in life? In what ways can God help us that a person or institution is incapable of doing?
Family Time:
- Psalm 120 asks for deliverance from enemies that are lying (verse 2) and want to fight (verse 7). Has someone ever lied about you or tried to cause a fight or argument? Memorize Psalm 120:1-2. He will hear you!
- When you lift your eyes to the Lord, or go to Him in trouble, how does He help you? (verses 3, 5-8)
**A Song of Ascent: These songs were sung by the Israelites on their way to the temple in Jerusalem. They traveled there three times a year: at Unleavened Bread, Pentecost and Sukkot. The temple was on a hill in Jerusalem. As they walked towards the temple they ascended – or went up – to get to the temple. There are 14 Songs of Ascent in the book of Psalms. Watch for them!
