Read Psalm 106
Think About It:
- Psalm 106 begins as Psalm 105 ended with praising God. But at verse 6, it begins to confess Israel’s past and present sins and need for God’s mercy. In essence the psalmist is saying, our fathers have sinned and rebelled and so have we. In what ways have you sinned or rebelled against God that may be taught to your descendants by example and possibly be passed on and followed?
- We may think to ourselves…how could Israel see so many of God’s great miracles and then forget about God’s greatness, rebelling against Him by disregarding His laws, His guidance and His perfect will? However, sometimes we find ourselves enticed by the world’s gods—power, convenience and comfort, fame, sex, and pleasure. As Israel forgot God, we are also susceptible to forgetting Him and giving in to the pressure of the world. What areas of temptation are you struggling with or have you struggled with in the past?
- God allowed trouble to come to the Israelites in order to help them. Although difficulties, oppression, persecution and troubles aren’t always caused by our sin or rebellion, God can use these things to help us and increase our faith (James 1:2-4). What good can come from our troubles and trials?
